The villages making up the Ishi-Ozalla Autonomous in Nkanu West local government area of Enugu state have distanced themselves from alleged rumours of election to the stool of the traditional institution of the autonomous community purportedly slated for Saturday, 24 April, 2021.
The statement which was contained in a press release made available to newsmen this afternoon was signed by Chief Uchenna Nweke and Honorable Christian Uzochukwu; the Chairman and the Secretary respectively, on behalf of the people of Edeanigu, Ndiagbo, Umugwu, Umuani, Ndiugwu and Nveneoha villages of Ishi-Ozalla Autonomous Community.
The release further warned that it would be prejudicial and against the spirit of the law of the land for a group of anomie who derive satisfaction in mischief making to subvert a matter which was already in the court.
It, therefore, called on all relevant stakeholders, security agencies, and concerned authorities to swing into action in order to stop those bent at fomenting trouble and creating insecurities where non exist.
The press release read in parts: “The People of Ishi-ozalla Community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, Government and the Public are hereby advised to disregard any rumoured igweship election in the Community,on Saturday 24th April 2021.
“This was the handiwork of mischief makers who are bent on causing crisis in the Community for their selfish gain.
“The people of Ishi-ozalla are committed to peaceful resolution of the crisis in the area before the igweship election to allow every eligible member of the Community participate in the election.
“Government and relevant authorities should hold the originators of the said announcement responsible for any break down of law and order in Ishi-ozalla Community.”
