AMJON Honours Anyika for Leadership in Maritime Sector
The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has honoured Dr. Chizoba Christiana Anyika for outstanding performance and exemplary leadership in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The award recognises Anyika’s more than 20 years of contributions to maritime administration, logistics, marine tourism and advocacy for women and youth.
The award was presented in Lagos by AMJON, led by its President, Mrs. Vera Osokpo.
Anyika is Deputy Director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and Head of Maritime Guard Command Administration.
In that capacity, she oversees personnel management, welfare, audit and operational support within the command.
As Secretary General of the Africa Blue Economy Roundtable (ABER) Women’s Forum, Anyika leads policy engagement, capacity building and strategic partnerships.
Her work focuses on advancing women’s participation across Africa’s maritime, fisheries, ports, marine tourism and broader blue economy sectors.
“This honour strengthens our resolve at the ABER Women’s Forum to amplify African women’s voices in maritime governance and economic development,” Anyika said.
“Leadership must translate into real opportunities for more women and young professionals across the continent,” she added.
Anyika also holds leadership positions with Women in Energy, Oil & Gas (WEOG) and the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA).
She holds a PhD in Transport Logistics, specialising in Marine Tourism, and an MSc in Marine Policy from Cardiff University.
Through her professional engagements, Anyika has continued to promote the connection between maritime policy, industry practice and innovation.
Osokpo said the recognition reflected AMJON’s commitment to celebrating excellence and acknowledging women contributing to Africa’s maritime development.
In a special gesture, AMJON also celebrated Anyika’s birthday during the award ceremony.
About ABER Women’s Forum
The ABER Women’s Forum is the gender and youth platform of the Africa Blue Economy Roundtable (ABER).
The Forum promotes women’s and youth participation and leadership in Africa’s blue economy through advocacy, capacity building, enterprise development and strategic partnerships.
