This assertion was made by the Commander of Enugu State traffic Management Authority(ESTMA), Mr Kenneth Aniebonam UGWU during his media Monthly briefing in his office.
He noted that today the fear of the Ministry of Transport Officials is the beginning of Wisdom as the taskforce officials are in almost every nook and crannies of the Metropolis ensuring that traffic regulations are Complied with dispatch.
One major area the MOT officials are enforcing is Driving against the traffic that results in arrest of the offender Who is immediately referred to the Psychiatrist for proper examination of his mental state and payment of five hundred thousand naira to Serve as deterrent to others.
In the same vein the Commander said that the Authority has zero tolerance for officials caught Collecting bribe such as the recent Sacking of five of its officials for bribery and Corruption,he used the opportunity to warn Motorists to desist from offering bribe to it’s officials.
Kenneth lauded the Commissioner of transport Dr Obi Ozor for his outstanding efforts to ensure full Compliance to all traffic laws and an enabling environment.
Today Motorists obey the traffic lights and the Governor in his magnanimity have provided the necessary equipments Such as Cranes, towing Vans to ensure free flow of traffic even where an accident occurs because the equipments are in place to restore normalcy.
For the Authority we have embarked on educating the Public in such area as obeying traffic signs like the Zebra Crossing which ensures road users are protected as Motorists who crosses the lines are arrested and made to pay fine.
Ken emphasised that one major challenge the taskforce officials encounter is the Passersby who intervene on behalf of the offenders that sometimes results in altercation.
Another Challenge the officials are contending with are the fake traffic taskforce Who claims they are from the local governments but we have been arresting and prosecuting them he concluded.
