Late Senator Okey
The Nsukka Journalists Forum (NJF), has called on President Bola Tinibu to approve the creation of Adada State as a posthumous honour to late Senator Okechukwu Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial district of Enugu State from 2023-2025.
The call was contained in a statement issued in Nsukka, signed by the forum’s Chairman and Secretary, Mr Benson Ezugwu and Mr Felix Abugu respectively.
The NJF described the late senator as a vocal, fearless and courageous leader, who openly defended the agitation for the creation of Adada State as part of addressing the marginalisation of the South East region of Nigeria.
According to the forum, such a leader loved by his people and regarded as the best senator that had emerged from the zone, needed to be posthumously recognised to serve as morale encouragement to future generations.
“Senator Okey Ezea fought very hard untill his death, for the creation of Adada State on the floor of the Senate of the Federal Republic
“He was loved and cherished by his constituency; a consummate leader, generous and always ready to shoulder the needs of his people.
“Ezea was a democratic combatant ever ready to defend his people in the political front; he deserves a posthumous honour to serve a motivation to the younger political leaders, not only in Enugu North but beyond.
“We, therefore, passionately appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to grant him a posthumous honour by approving the creation of Adada State, which Ezea fought for politically on the floor of the senate, ” the group said.
NJF said that as the late senator finalizes his final journey on this terrestrial earth on February 13, his contributions to humanity will surely not go unnoticed.
“His brief stint in the red chamber was characterised by vibrancy and ultimate desire to serve his people and Nigeria at large.
“Surely, his exit leaves a deep hole in the political landscape of the Nsukka zone, ” NJF said.
