A pressure group in the Enugu North Senatorial zone, the NSUKKA ASADU INITIATIVE, has urged the people of the zone to unite in the interest of the people.
The group made the call at the end of it’s enlarged meeting on Tuesday in Enugu, where several issues including the unity of the zone were extensively discussed.
In a release made available to newsmen jointly signed by Mr Chinweike Ugwuoke, Coordinator and Secretary, Mr Mark Eze respectively, the Initiative said the call has become necessary for the socio-economic progress and well-being of the people.
“We urge our people to unite for progress because, united we stand and divided we fall.
“The more united we are the better for our senatorial zone; our unity is our strength, ” the group said.
The group also appraised the current development in the zone and observed that not much is happening in the zone in terms of infrastructural development.
It urged the Enugu State Government, as well as the Chairmen of the six local government areas in the zone to do more in fast-tracking the infrastructural development of the zone, especially opening up the rural communities.
“Our rural communities are suffering from lack of access roads, which is affecting the economy of the people.
“These communities are agrarian, they need access roads to convey their farm produce to the markets for their economic well-being, ” the group said.
The initiative also lamented the current insecurity in the zone, where massive kidnappings/abductions have continued to reign supreme, in spite of the orchestrated security measures being put in place by the Enugu State government.
“We appeal to relevant authorities, including the security agencies to beam their search lights on the Enugu North senatorial zone.
“This is, even as the yuletide season is very close, and to ensure that the people of the zone enjoy the Christmas as their counterparts in other parts of the state, ” the group said.
According to the group, Enugu North zone is the gateway to Northern Nigeria, and hence needed stronger and fortified security in view of the current insecurity, ravaging parts parts of the country.
The initiative wished the people of the zone a safe Christmas celebration devoid of any breach.
