The Chairman of Public Affairs Analysts in Enugu State, Dr Ambrose Igboke has commended Journalists in the country for their roles as the Watchdog of the society.
He made the commendation in a television programme (Afia TV) in his reaction to the forgery allegations against Chief Uche Nnaji, former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations.
It would be recalled that the Premium Times had recently reported that the former minister forged his UNN degree certificate and NYSC discharge certificate also.
The report, which generated a lot of reactions, eventually led to the resignation of the minister.
Igboke, while reacting to the incident hailed the Nigerian media for upholding the sanctity of it’s profession.
He said: “Once more, the media in Nigeria have demonstrated that they are the watchdog of the society.
“Through the investigation of Premium Times Newspaper, the forgery of a University Certificate and the NYSC Certificate by the now resigned Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Uche Nnaji, was exposed. “
The analyst also recalled the investigative prowess of the media in the past which had led to exposing and disgracing several government officials and their dishonest dealings in public service.
“It was also the Nigerian Media that exposed the NYSC Certificate forgery case against the Former Minister of Finance; Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, who was also forced to resign.
“Also, the first Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Fourth Republic; Mr. Salisu Buhari’s forged University of Toronto Degree Certificate, was also exposed by The News Magazine.
“I salute the Nigerian Media for standing up when it matters. Let’s keep exposing those who cheat the system and hold public officers to account for their actions, ” he said.
