Security staff of First city Monument bank (FCMB) Nsukka branch has been gunned down in the university town of Nsukka after breaking Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of the bank, carting away N3.655m from the machine.
Investigations revealed that the security staff of the bank identified as Alumona Peter Nkem was employed in the bank barely three months ago and hailed from Abbi community in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu state.
Competent sources said that the security staff of the bank allegedly took advantage of the rainfall that night to scale through the back fence of the bank, having perfectly tied a rope to the fence which he used to drop into the bank premises.
He reportedly disconnected the CCTV camera before breaking the ATM carting away the available cash in the cash machine.
Our dependable source said that the security staff of the bank has perfectly finished his robbery operation when the eagle eyed police officer attached to the bank cited him while trying to escape with the loot through the fence.
He was reportedly said to have jumped into the bank, fired and got him down on the spot.
Everyday NEWS gathered that other accomplices of the robbery suspect who were in a waiting vehicle, sped off immediately they heard gun shot of the police while the security staff of the bank lay in a pool of blood as he was shot severally on the cheek.
Contacted for comment the Area commander Nigeria police command Nsukka Steve Yabnet (ACP) in company of Divsional Police officer (DPO) Nsukka Urban division Musa Badamasi (CSP) said that the police would stop at nothing until the fleeing suspects are apprehended.
He also said that the suspect must have been an old hand in such criminal operations to have disconnected the CCTV camera of the bank and carried out the operation while his accomplices waited outside in a Standby vehicle to zoom off as soon as the suspect comes out.
Yabanet however warned other criminals to stay away from Nsukka as the police is battle ready to fish out the bad eggs in the area and its environ.
