Enugu State Boxing Coach Blaise Ude said the 2023 South East Boxing champions will be hosted by Enugu State and will kick off on Dec. 8.
Ude disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday saying that the championship will accommodate all boxing weight categories for male and female.
NAN reports that the 22nd edition and 2024 National Sports Festival (NSF) will be hosted by Ogun State.
According to him, the championship is organised by Osondu Ogbu who is representing the zone at the federal level in conjunction with the Enugu State Ministry of Youths and Sports.
Ude said, “Our South East chairman Osondu Ogbu is organising Boxing championship for the five states of the South East as our representative at the federal.
“He is organising the championship because of the upcoming NSF so that boxers in the zone can be feat and do well at the festival.
“The championship will take off on December 8 and end on December 10, a two day championship in conjunction with the Enugu State Ministry of Youths and Sports.
“We are expecting the five states of the South East to present their boxers as the competition is not limited to any weight so it is for all weight for male and female,” he said.
Ude said that Enugu State Boxers are ready for the championship as they have intensified their training to ensure they do well as the host.
He noted that, he has been in contact with other states and they confirmed they will be present at the championship and training seriously for it.
The coach praised Ogbu for his love for boxing which he have showed by sponsoring boxers at the state and federal competitions.
“Our chairman have done well, he organised referee judges course for us, the other time he organised South East Boxing League and now South East Boxing championship.
“I wish people would emulate him by giving back to the society and help to take the Youths off the street and social vises,” Ude said.
