
Tahe Executive Director/CEO Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Dr Ezra Yakusak has reiterated the importance of organic farming practices to non oil exporters in the country.
He said this onThursday at a one-day capacity building workshop on sustainable organic farming practices, organised by the South East Regional Office of NEPC in Enugu.
The theme of the workshop is: “Nurturing quality vegetables, mushrooms, and yellow pepper for global exports.”
While declaring the workshop opened, Yakusak said he was delighted to see diverse group of farmers, exporters and potential exporters itching to explore high yeilding techniques.
He said that organic farming practices have gained tremendous importance in recent times owing to the superior quality produce they yeild.
“As we focus on vegetables, mushrooms, and yellow pepper, we recognize the potential for growth and profitability these crops.
“By the end of this workshop, I have the firm believe that you will all have a clearer understanding of the best practices; from soil management to pest control.
“To ensure the highest quality harvests for export, ” the executive director said.
According to him, the workshop was not just an opportunity to learn but a chance to build a strong cluster of farmers dedicated to sustainable and organic agriculture.
Yakusak said NEPC would continue to work tirelessly within it’s mandate producers and exporters export quality products that would compete favourably with other commodities in the international Market
Also speaking, the South East Coordinator of NEPC, Mrs Esther Ikporah also harped on the need for participants to pay attention to the resource person, who, she said was very knowledgeable in organic farming practices.
She lauded some of the participants for regular their participation in the training programmes organised by the NEPC in the zone for non oil exporters.
