Enugu State Handball team has moved into camp ahead of the South East zonal elimination tournament, billed for August 12 to 14, and the National Youth Games (NYG) coming up in Asaba, Delta state, in September.
The team that would be hosting other states in Zonal elimination moved into camp after their successful registration for the National Identification Number (NIN) on Thursday.
Thirty (30) players, both male and female, from Enugu successfully registered for NIN at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and became the only team to register both categories in the elimination.
The Enugu State handball, Christian Chigbo, said that his team was already in good spirit for the elimination and would do everything possible to qualify and represent the state.
He said, “I am quite opmistic we will qualify for the 2023 National Youth Games in Asaba, and the players are in high spirit,”
The Assistant Coach, Emeka Idoko, said, “Enugu State is hosting to win in order to represent the zone at Asaba.”
The Enugu State Handball Association media officer, Otuechelu Olie, praised the chairman of the association, Mr Onyebuchi Asogwa, for bankrolling the team for years and ensured the growth of the game in the state.
Olie noted that the players had promised to win the elimination and laurel as a way of commemorating the chairman’s birthday later in the year.
“This is to show appreciation in all he has done for them and strongly believing in the team to deliver the slot come August 14 and to represent the state,” he added.
