NDE trains 50 on post sustainable agriculture in Enugu
The Enugu State office of National Directorate of Employment, said it has trained 50 unemployed persons under its Post Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme.
The Director-General of the agency, Abubakar Fikpo, said this at the opening of a 3-day Agricultural Development Training in Enugu.
According to him, the participants were also trained on Knowledge, Attitude, Skill and Habit model.
Fikpo, represented by the state Coordinator of NDE, Mrs Ifeoma Ezepue, said the agency had four core programmes with which it tackles unemployment and reduce poverty.
He listed the programmes as Vocational Skill Development, Small Scale Enterprises, Special Public Works and Rural Employment Promotion.
The NDE boss said the training was organised in pursuit of its mandate of combating unemployment, encouraging wealth creation and poverty reduction.
“To counter the effect of economic challenges facing the nation, the NDE decided to help create wealth and reduce poverty, especially among the youths and women.
“We in NDE are committed to impacting skills, domestic, technical and agricultural that can and will change lives positively,” he said.
Fikpo assured them that the gain from the training would help to transform their economic and social lives in the near future.
In a remark, the state coordinator encouraged the trainees to make themselves available and abide by the rules and regulations of the programme.
She assured the participants that the agency was working with a consultant to ensure that they benefitted from the training.
The President, National Council of Wemen Society, Mrs Helen Nnamani, commended NDE for a job well done.
Nnamani said it was gratifying that the objective of the training was to ensure that women were not left behind in the scheme of things.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Uchechukwu Ugwu, applauded the agency for giving them the opportunity to get trained, promising that whatever they learnt would be put into proper use.
