Enugu Governorship: Mbah’s victory will not stand___ Nze Jefferson Dike
The Governorship election in Enugu which was won by Barrister Peter MBAH of PDP Wednesday night has been described as a Pyrrhic victory that will not stand the test of time .
This assertion was made by a Labour Party Enugu State Super stakeholder, Nze Dike when he addressed Journalists in his office at independence layout ENUGU.
Dike Enugu as he is known, noted that it was a pity that the umpire the INEC decided to avoid playing by its own rules and had continued to adopt different methods to handle complaints that had similar issues as in the matter of Enugu State Governorship election which was a clear case of padding of votes that should have been cancelled outright but surprisingly was reviewed to favour PDP’s Barrister Peter Mbah.
He further said it was on record that in some states where such issues were treated the guilty were dealt with to deter would be offenders from such acts.
Nze Dike wondered how the accredited Voters from the Nkanu East LGA, which was on display in Irev different from the total number of votes cast that had to be reviewed by INEC in Abuja that eventually gave PDP the margin that led to their victory.
This action he pointed out was like robbing Peter to pay Paul which will not stand.
“It is very clear that the Returning officer was under pressure to announce a result which he does not believe in as when he was asked by the State Chairman of AA Political Party, Mr Charles okafor during the collation why a case of padding was not cancelled but rather reviewed by INEC officials who were not in the local government during the voting excercise, ” he said.
According to him: “The Returning officers response that he was under an authority should be further interrogated and the mandate given by the good People of Enugu retrieved and handed over to the actual winner Barrister Chijioke Jonathan Edeoga of Labour Party.”
