Gov. Ugwuanyi lauds ESUT VC for clearing 5 years backlog of graduation
Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has commended the Vice Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (EDUT), Prof. Aloysius Okolie for clearing a five year backlog of graduation in the school.
The governor gave the commendation, at the University’s18th Convocation held in the main campus convocation pavilion Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government Area.
“I commend you for breaking the jinx and bringing forth the five years of the University convocation.
“Now that the VC has started the move, I urged graduands to apply what they learnt to whatever they do in life for a better society,” he said.
In his address of welcome, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Okolie said the convocation covered five years set of graduands.
“This convocation covers from 2016 to 2021 and 21, 523 are going to be conferred with first degree; 924 with Postgraduate Diploma; 2,901 with Master Degree and 261 with Ph.D; totaling, 25,609 graduands, ” he said.
Okolie, who also stood in for the Chancellor of the University and Chairman of Council, Dr Hassan Adamu said the event was significant to the council, management, the University Community and indeed the graduands.
He said the new administration under Prof. Okolie has achieved a lot within six months of their appointment.
He noted that, within the first quarter of this year, the governing council painstakingly interviewed and appointed the members of the new management team.
“They were charged to get the University to the top level of intergrity and academic scholarship and one of the fruit is what we are witnessing today.
“Just six months after, the members of the council, within the sense of modesty, can affirm that, the right team of management was appointed to pilot the affairs of the institution,” he said.
A graduant, Dr Maureen Ikpeama who was conferred with, Doctor of Philosophy, said, she was happy.
“I thank God that today is reality as the journey we started years ago has ended in praise, ” she said
