The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Ahmed Ammani, has directed investigation of one Vincent Oke, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), over alleged sexual assault on a detained teenager.
This directive is contained in a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ndukwe, recently in Enugu.
Ndukwe said that the commissioner ordered the state Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID) to conduct a thorough investigation and bring up actionable findings on the report alleging that Oke serving in Awgu Police Division committed the act.
He said that the alleged sexually assaulted act took place as far as March 18, 2022 and was recently brought up by the 17-year-old female detainee (name withheld) family.
The police spokesman said: “The commissioner further directed that the investigation be concluded within the shortest possible time.
“The state police boss assured that the case will be given the deserved attention and that the ASP or any other person or persons found culpable, will be appropriately sanctioned.”
Ndukwe said that the CP emphatically noted that the Nigeria Police, which is a disciplined organisation, do not condone acts against the rights and dignity of any person.
“The Police Command in Enugu State will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is duly served to all involved in the case.
“I (commissioner) call on the parties to make available all the necessary information and evidence required in the investigation. Further development will be communicated on the matter,” he added.
