Labour Party finally zones deputy governorship to Greater Awgu
The Labour Party in Enugu State has finally dumped the current rotational arrangement in the state after 23 years after it resolved to zone her deputy governorship seat to the Greater Awgu’ political bloc.
The State Chairman Barr Casmir Agbo disclosed this while addressing the members of State Working Committee (SWC) at a meeting in Enugu.
Agbo said that the party arrived at the decision after wide consultations with critical stakeholders.
“After due considerations and having consulted widely, we have come to the fact that the current arrangement is a PDP arrangement.
“To ensure Equity and Justice, we are going to the West with special focus on greater Awgu’ political bloc, ” he said.
Agbo said further that, out of the five Local Government Areas that make up the zone, Udi had produced governor (Sullivan Chime) while the present deputy governor is from Ezeagu.
Also speaking, the State Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr Ben Asogwa said the choice of Enugu west zone was to ensure Equity, Justice and Fairness.
He said that since the governorship candidate of the party was from Enugu East, and hails from Isi Uzo, a border Local Government with Enugu North Senatorial district.
“It is just fair to zone our deputy to the west for equity and fairness, ” he said.
A member of the SWC, Mr Kenneth Nwugwu, chairman of the party in Igbo Etiti Local Government Area, moved the motion for the adoption of the decision.
It would be recalled that, Mr Chijioke Edeoga was elected as the party’s governorship candidate on August 4.
The development is bound to douse tension and reduce speculation that his per added the political space in the state since the emergence of Hon. Chijioke Edeoga as the authentic governorship candidate of the party.
